Are there Easy Ways to Lose Weight?

I've found that easy ways to lose weight abound. There are hundreds of sites that offer tips, and tricks to actually lose weight. Between diet and exercise, whatever you want to do, if that works for you to lose weight, DO IT.

In other words...if you REASONABLY reduce your calories (stop eating so much) and increase your movement or exercise, you will lose weight. The easiest ways to lose weight, walking and running are also free and available to most everyone.

That being said, there are more specific ways, easy in their simplicity, that you can lose weight.

This section of the site will focus on just that…EASY ways to lose weight.

Walking to Lose weight

Running, walking, swimming, cycling…the more you move, the more you burn. That is the easy part…the harder part is doing one of those things.

Lets focus on cheap or free first: walking and running. If you are like I was, 100 + pounds overweight (OBESE), and you don’t have access to the doctors and medical staff on the Biggest Loser, then running is something to work towards. Yes, you can do it (unless you have a physical reason why you can’t), but without knowing your specifics, I suggest walking first.

Get up, right now, and walk. If it is at night, walk from one end of your house/apartment to the other. If it is daylight and safe to walk outside, GO DO IT NOW.

Avoid over-thinking; just move. It won’t kill you and there is an excellent chance you will feel better for doing it. Walk up and down your driveway, street, block…do it now. I’ll be here when you get back.

Running and Fat Loss

Running is one of the most energy-intense exercises there is. Using the largest muscle groups in the body, the metabolic demands of running make it a great weight loss tool.

There are a lot of programs out there to take you from walking to running a 5K or even a marathon. They are tapered in such a way as to reduce the chance of injury and increase the chance of success.

Think about it…you could go from an obese couch potato to running a 5 k in 12-16 weeks. It is inspiring and more simple than you realize.

Bicycling or “spinning” and weight loss

Biking is another an excellent method of exercise to burn calories. Even with a cheap bike with no gears, you can pick up a used bike trainer and “ride” in your bedroom for exercise. Or if you live in good climate a nice bike ride can be a wonderful change of pace from your other activities. Biking is not considered a weight-activity, so, other than some initial discomfort on the bike seats – it is a considered one of the easy ways to lose weight.

Eating to lose weight

Eating to lose weight is pretty straight-forward. Eat in a way that helps you to lose weight…or, in other words, eat foods that provide energy without wasted calories, unwanted fat, or unnecessary carbohydrates added in.

So many times we think of losing weight and “dieting”. While that word has a very negative meaning for most of us, it essentially means eating to lose weight. I have found that if I put together a list of things I CAN eat, and enjoy eating most days, and I pile it all in one spot in the kitchen – I don’t get that panicky feeling of “what if I have to have a cookie”? I see the volume of food and I relax. Just one of the many tricks I used to lose 100+ pounds of fat.

Fasting to lose weight

On the other hand, fasting for weight loss is also an easy way to lose weight. There is some literature regarding short-term (12-36 hour fasts) designed to break the cycle of bingeing or to cleanse the body. I have spoken to some people that find it very useful. They don’t feel they are restricted to what they eat, only the time frames they eat it. Though I didn’t find any long-term studies on fasting, as a form of weight loss, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work for some people.

It can be very dangerous – if you are planning to fast to lose weight, please let your medical practitioner know in advance. Certain conditions can be dangerously aggravated, diabetes for one, with a prolonged fast.

I’m still reviewing the journals to see if there is any significant studies performed on fasting as a form of weight loss. Again – please be careful.




In the end - the easy ways to lose weight are the ones that work for you – whatever you will continue doing. Remember to keep it simple...move more, eat less.
