What are the Best Exercises to Lose Weight?

Ok, to start, there are hundreds of exercises to lose weight, possibly even thousands, when you look at variations for each exercise. In fact, there are so many, I am hesitant to suggest the BEST exercise to lose weight because it will depend on what you will do consistently.

That being said – the best exercises are natural to us and free for us, other than appropriate shoes or clothes, our bodies are designed to MOVE.

This section is set up to help you find things you can do, in terms of movement and exercise, to lose weight. Keep in mind that they reason exercise causes weight is not the sweating (so just going to a sauna doesn’t work), but the energy required to move the muscles to moves us during exercise. In other words…running to lose weight?

Running is one of the most “energy-intensive” movements we can do.

Depending on who you ask, swimming is the second, (because of the thermal energy loss in water, it takes our body an additional amount of energy to maintain function as we are exercises and losing body heat), then cycling comes in a close third. Walking for fat loss, while cheap and easy for everyone to do, takes less energy to accomplish.

However, it is a paradox that what is easiest, may also be best.

Very few individuals injure themselves walking to lose weight, while running injuries are much more common. Speaking only for myself, I walked, and walked and walked until I could run, and while my knees were healing I continued to walk. You CAN lose dozens, even hundreds of pounds walking, just WALKING and making adjustments in your diet. And - you can walk for the REST of your life!!!

Back to Rrunning – it works so well to help us lose weight because of the energy cost.

Energy is the same thing we eat…in the form of calories…whether by fat, carbs, protein…all of them, in different ways become energy. While this is not designed to be a site by a dietitian or nutritional expert, I can tell you that in my studies and readings there are MANY varied views on what mix of calories is best for “burning fat”. So I am not even going there. But we can keep it basic for now.

You are fat – obese, overweight – whichever word you chose to use, because you take in more energy than your body uses. Our job here is to start changing that.
