Obesity and Cushing's Syndrome
Cushing's Syndrome, sometimes erroneously called Cushing's disease, is a condition caused by long-term exposure to excessive glucocorticoids.
Cushing's Disease is a term denoted for Cushing's Syndrome that is specifically caused by an excessive secretion of the
adrenocorticotropin hormone (ACTH) by a pituitary tumor. Some of the symptoms include upper body obesity, increased fat on back, easy to bruise, weak muscles,
high blood pressure and more. Unfortunately, other conditions sometimes make it difficult to isolate Cushing's as the problem.
I have not personnally been diagnosed with Cushing's but I have had a dear friend who has so I thought it would be useful to
compile some information. Please take a look at the information below, and if you have any references you would like me to
post, please email me at erin at obesityfreeforlife dot com.
Please note - Cushing's Syndrome / Disease also affects dogs & horses - but I have not included those links here.
